Letting Go

The yin and yang of nature, the cycles of life show up daily in our lives, for the one thing that is inevitable is change. Just because something was right for you in the past doesn’t mean it still is—whether this is a relationship, a job, a home, a way of being.

As you grow and evolve, you discover more and more of what you want and do not want. If you are ready to bring new things and experiences into your life, you have to be willing to ask what you are willing to let go of in order to make space for the new.

We truly possess the keys to our own prisons, to the rules and limits that we put on ourselves because of old stories we tell ourselves about not deserving happiness and fulfilment.

Will you hold onto your old stories or learn lessons from them, let them go, and move on?

By letting go of caring what others think, letting go of judgement, guilt, and shame, you can free yourself. Imagine how much more energy you might feel if you were free of, not bound by the past.

To let go of past thinking, you must stop wishing that things could be the way they once were.
You also must stop projecting into the future—believing you can’t ever be happy or you will only be happy when you lose weight, have the house, the car.

Begin letting go by noticing the small ways in which you let attachment create unhappiness in your life. When you choose to let go you choose to heal both yourself and your planet.

Begin letting go by noticing the small ways in which you let attachments create unhappiness in your life.
Then try these tips and techniques that will help you with letting go:
  • You can’t change another person, so don’t waste your time and energy trying.
  • Let go of the old to make space for the new
  • Face what has happened, accept that you can’t change it, then move on.
  • Don’t take yourself too seriously; be okay with making mistakes.,
  • Do what scares you. Fear holds us back. Find your voice. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
  • Remember: worry about the future is like a prayer for what you do NOT want.
  • Use meditation or yoga to bring you into the present moment for breath aids letting go.
  • Make a list of your accomplishments—even the small ones.
  • Give yourself space to vent, then let go and move on.
  • Laugh and have fun as a great way to support to letting go.

In addition to those techniques, you might create some rituals such as writing everything you want to express in a letter. Even if you choose not to send it, clarifying your feelings will help you come to terms with reality as it is. Write down all you want to let go of, then burn the letter.
You might imagine your life ten years from now; visualize what will be important then and whether holding on to what you are attached to now will still serve you.

Your home is an outward expression of how you are feeling on the inside about your life and relationships. If your home is filled with items from your past you may be holding on to feelings of being stuck in the past. So, clear out the old to make space for the new. Just keep asking yourself,

“Do I need it, use it, and love it?”
If the answer is no, let it go.

Love, Amanda
